Music to Moore's Irish Melodies in Dublin and London
This exhibition tells the story of Moore's Irish Melodies through the circulation of the original series - as well the creation of edited or newly-composed versions of these songs - in Dublin and London before 1881. These were the two main centres for the publication of Moore's music.
Two songs in particular are chosen to demonstrate this circulation: "Fly not yet" from the first number, and 'The Fortune Telller' ("Down in the valley") from the eighth number.
The collection and exhibit are part of the 2015-2017 project, 'Europe's Reception of the Irish Melodies and National Airs: Thomas Moore in Europe' (ERIN). ERIN is co-funded by the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Union. The text for the exhibition was written by Sarah McCleave.
